There are many that really do not understand the definition of martial law and what will happen if it is declared. It is real and something that is in our near future if all the fighting and racial tension between all of us doesn’t come to an end.
The best definition of Martial Law I found was on Wikipedia. This is what it said:
Martial law is the imposition of the highest-ranking military officer as the military governor or as the head of the government, thus removing all power from the previous executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. It is usually imposed temporarily when the government or civilian authorities fail to function effectively (e.g., maintain order and security, or provide essential services).
Martial law can be used by governments to enforce their rule over the public. Such incidents may occur after a coup d’état, when threatened by popular protest, to suppress political opposition, or to stabilize insurrections or perceived insurrections. Martial law may be declared in cases of major natural disasters, however, most countries use a different legal construct, such as a state of emergency.
Martial law has also been imposed during conflicts and in cases of occupations, where the absence of any other civil government provides for an unstable population. Examples of this form of military rule include post World War II reconstruction in Germany and Japan as well as the southern reconstruction following the U.S. Civil War.
Typically, the imposition of martial law accompanies curfews, the suspension of civil law, civil rights, habeas corpus, and the application or extension of military law or military justice to civilians. Civilians defying martial law may be subjected to military tribunal (court-martial).
Martial law has only been declared 12 times in the history of the United States. The most recent was on May 21, 1961, (The civil rights movement) Governor Patterson of Alabama declared martial law “as a result of outside agitators coming into Alabama to violate our laws and customs” which has led to “outbreaks of lawlessness and mob action.”
Widespread anarchy gripping the country could be reason enough for the Obama administration to announce the declaration of martial law and the suspension of Americans’ constitutionally protected rights, including the right to vote and hold national elections. Martial law must be called for by the President, who would then suspend our constitutional rights, and only the President would be able to reinstate our constitution and put an end to martial law.
If anyone believes this idea is too ridiculous, please think about the tension Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson keeps fueling. People destroying towns and the supposed declaration of war on police. Call me a conspiracy theorist or not but if we as a whole do not put all this aside and unite for what really matters, this could be in our near future.
