Years ago we had a 14 week old kitten that had fleas. I went to the petshop for a flea treatment. I was sold some age appropriate flea drops (the ones you apply behind the head that last a month or so), but after applying the drops our poor little kitten came out in terrible blisters and she lost a lot of fur… Suffice to say we felt pretty awful. This is the one thing people don’t consider when using these flea treatments that last for 4-6 weeks; they contain nasty insecticides and if your pet has a bad reaction to the chemicals, there is nothing you can do as the chemicals are absorbed into the skin and it hangs around for weeks.
Anyway I saw this homemade natural flea powder recipe and it looks and sounds like it will do the trick. We have posted about using Diatomaceous Earth before, for ridding your home of spiders, cockroaches, ants and fleas etc. I knew it was safe to use around the home, but I wasn’t sure it was ok to use directly on pets. The good thing about this homemade flea powder is that if your pet does have a reaction to it, you can simply wash it off!
